Comcast Cares Day at Georgetown South

Bring yourself, a friend, your family, a team from work, a group from church, your book club, the people from Rotary, Kiwanis, Lions, bring groups from middle school, high school and college. Simply put, bring anyone with a mind and a heart for service to make a difference for an entire community.

Georgetown South is a community of 860 houses, 4,000+ residents with at least half under the age of 18. Most of Georgetown South has come here from a country in Central or South America or Mexico. They came for a better life and now they work round the clock to have that better vida. Many of the residents will be working alongside volunteers from COMCAST CARES engaging in a number of activities to make the community more beautiful, and most importantly, safer.

Activities for the day include: mulching 45 playground areas, planting the 2018 Community Garden, planting window boxes at the entrances and at the Georgetown South Community Center, painting and personalizing 30 picnic tables for use throughout the  green space, and putting house numbers to the rear of the residences. While most of the activities are about beautification, two stand out for making Georgetown South a safer place. 1), the mulching of the playgrounds and 2) the task of making house number plaques to be attached to the rear fences of over 840 houses. This will be a huge help to public safety professionals trying to identify locations where assistance is needed. We need volunteers to help with this event. En pocas palabras, traiga a cualquiera con una mente y un corazón para el servicio que marque la diferencia para toda una comunidad. Georgetown South es una comunidad que cuenta con 860 casas, más de 4000 residentes de los cuales más de la mitad son menores de 18 años. La mayoría de los residentes de Georgetown South son inmigrantes de América central, América del sur o Mexico. Ellos vinieron buscando un mejor bienestar y trabajan todo el día para tener una vida mejor. Muchos de los residentes trabajarán junto a los voluntarios de COMCAST CARES participando en una serie de actividades para hacer que esta comunidad sea más bella, y lo más importante, más segura. Estas actividades incluyen echar mulch en 15 parques de recreación, siembra en el jardín comunitario 2018, plantando los maseteros de las entradas a Georgetown South, pintar y personalizar 30 mesas para que sean ubicados para su uso en las áreas verdes y poner los números de las casas en la parte posterior de la propiedad. Si bien la mayoría de las actividades embellecen nuestro espacio, dos se destacan por hacer de Georgetown South un lugar más seguro. 1) Echar mulch a los parques y 2) la tarea de hacer unas placas con los números de las propiedades para que sean colocados en la parte posterior a más de 800 propiedades. Esto será de gran ayuda para profesionales de la seguridad pública tratando de identificar una unidad donde necesite asistencia. Necesitamos voluntarios para ayudar con este evento.
